The platform was officially launched by Shri Sanjay Savkare, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, on 15 July 2026 at Bharat Tex 2026, India’s largest global textile expo, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

The Maharashtra handloom ecosystem faced a set of structural challenges that traditional certification could not solve:

Counterfeit Products in Circulation

Machine-made and powerloom sarees were being sold in the market under the names of traditional Maharashtra handloom products, directly eroding artisan livelihoods and the brand value of heritage textiles.

No Reliable Way to Verify Authenticity

Buyers had no practical method to confirm whether a saree was genuinely handwoven, where it originated, or who made it. Authenticity depended entirely on the seller's word.

No Digital Identity for Artisans

Skilled weavers and weaving clusters had no verifiable digital presence tied to their output, so the craftsmanship behind each piece went unrecorded and unrecognised.

Limited Visibility for Authorities

Government bodies lacked a structured mechanism to monitor authentic textile circulation or to protect traditional handloom products at scale.

Fragmented Ecosystem Records

Weavers, clusters, manufacturers, retailers, and verification authorities operated without a shared, trusted record of product provenance.
